Report: Alex Smith still in hospital with post-op infection

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

There’s some unfortunate bit of information coming out from D.C. Wednesday night.

According to Burgundy Blog, Redskins quarterback Alex Smith remains in the hospital after undergoing surgery to repair a broken tibia and fibula in his right leg. The Pro Bowl quarterback is apparently dealing with a post-op infection.

This is some really bad news for the quarterback and his team. Smith suffered the devastating injury back in Week 11 against the Houston Texans. He almost immediately underwent surgery.

As the report notes, this could have a major impact on Smith’s recovery time. That’s only magnified if the quarterback does indeed have to undergo partial reconstruction of the leg.

Our thoughts are with Smith as he deals with this latest hiccup.

As it relates to the Redskins, they also lost Colt McCoy to a long-term injury Monday night. Mark Sanchez is the likely starter for the remainder of the season.

After that, Washington might have to add a starter-caliber quarterback to at least open up the 2019 campaign.
