Back in March, shortly after the Kansas City Chiefs celebrated their Super Bowl victory, rookie receiver Rashee Rice was involved in a hit-and-run car crash in Dallas. A total of five vehicles were damaged, with multiple occupants being treated for minor injuries.

Rice has since stated that he’s prepared to take “full responsibility” for his actions, which could involve a lengthy NFL suspension.

According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, the Chiefs are expecting Rice to be suspended for “half a season, at least.”

Considering Kansas City selected Xavier Worthy with the 28th overall pick, it’s possible the Chiefs were prepared for a significant penalty for their top wide receiver in 2024. They also recently gave Travis Kelce a raise, making sure Patrick Mahomes’ top weapon is fully bought into another winning season. Yet, being that the Chiefs are seeking to become the first team to threepeat in the Super Bowl era, Kelce likely didn’t need any extra motivation.

Even if Rice is forced out of action for roughly half the season, Mahomes will still have Kelce, Worthy, and several other Chiefs receivers vying for a chance to thrive in Andy Reid’s system.
