Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin agreed to terms on an eight-year, $69.6 million contract extension on Wednesday.

Larkin, 26, is playing in the final season of a five-year, $30.5 million contract he signed in 2018. The forward was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

The Michigan native has team-leading totals in goals (22), assists (35) and points (57) in 59 games this season.

Larkin has totaled 415 points (169 goals, 246 assists) in 563 career games since being selected by the Red Wings with the 15th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft. He was named the 37th captain in franchise history on Jan. 13, 2021.
