The Colorado Rapids’ scheduled home game against the Vancouver Whitecaps was postponed after a weather delay of more than four hours Wednesday night in Commerce City, Colo.

A makeup date was not announced.

The game was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. local time, but a severe weather delay was announced after the performance of the American and Canadian national anthems. Storms soon affected the Denver area, bringing lightning, driving rain and hail.

The Rapids’ stadium, Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, experienced electrical difficulties at just after 9 p.m. local time and backup generators had to power the stadium. Some fans ran onto the pitch amid the darkness before lighting was eventually restored.

A local noise ordinance prevented the game from starting any later than 11 p.m., according to the Denver Post. The call was not made to postpone until 11:42 p.m.

The Rapids (2-9-7, 13 points), owners of the worst record in Major League Soccer, will play Saturday at home against the Los Angeles Galaxy. The Whitecaps (5-5-7, 22 points) are set to visit Los Angeles FC on the same day.
