Texas Rangers shortstop and three-time All-Star Corey Seager was placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday and is expected to miss at least four weeks with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain.

In a corresponding move, the Rangers activated outfielder Leody Taveras from the IL.

Seager, the 2016 National League Rookie of the Year with the Los Angeles Dodgers, sustained the injury while legging out a double in Tuesday night’s win over the Kansas City Royals. He immediately exited the game.

Josh Smith will play shortstop in Wednesday night’s game and bat second.

Seager, 28, is batting .359 with a 1.008 OPS in 11 games this season. He has four doubles, a homer and seven runs. He’s in the second year of a $325 million, 10-year contract with the Rangers. He’s coming off his third All-Star campaign. He has slugged 138 career HRs.

Taveras began the season on the IL after sustaining a low-grade oblique strain during spring training. He’s in the lineup Wednesday night in center field, batting eighth.

Taveras hit .261 with five home runs, 14 doubles and 34 RBIs in 2022. He’s a career .226 hitter with 12 HRs in 181 career games (165 starts) in three seasons, all with the Rangers.
