The Raiders were expected to add to their secondary and they did exactly that on Friday with the addition of Karl Joseph. The Raiders news wasn’t surprising considering safety remained a position of need.

The Las Vegas Raiders announced the signing of safety Karl Joseph on Friday. Joseph was a former Raiders first-round draft pick that played with the team from 2016 to 2019. After leaving the Raiders, Joseph spent last season with the Cleveland Browns where he managed to rack up 67 tackles, two fumble recoveries, and an interception.

During his introductory press conference, Karl Joseph expressed the fact that he never wanted to leave the Raiders. He will join a young defensive back group that includes Jonathan Abram, Damon Arnette, and Travyon Mullen among others.

During his first stint with the Raiders, Karl Joseph was featured mostly at strong safety, yet the idea has been floated that he might be able to play both safety positions. Considering that reinforcing the secondary was atop the list of priorities for the Raiders, the signing of the versatile safety comes at an opportune time.
