Philadelphia Eagles contract move increases likelihood of trading star player within the week

The Philadelphia Eagles have been involved in trade rumors pretty much all offseason. While nothing has really come to fruition outside of acquiring Kenny Pickett, we have some more information.

As you likely already know, Pro Bowl EDGE rusher Haason Reddick was granted permission to seek a trade earlier in the offseason.

Despite his overall brilliance in two seasons with the Eagles, Reddick’s bloated 2024 cap figure ($21.83 million) and status as a free agent next March will play a role here.

Speaking of Reddick’s contract, a recent move by the Eagles on that front now increases the likelihood that he’ll be traded within the next week.

Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Philadelphia quietly moved Reddick’s $1 million bonus from March 1 to April 1. This gives the Eagles time to find a trade partner for Reddick. The interesting dynamic here is that the star EDGE rusher had to agree with the move, meaning the two sides are likely working together to find a good deal.

It’s looking more and more like this will be the case. Reddick has a $14-plus million base salary for the 2024 season, most of which is not guaranteed. Any team acquiring him would also likely look to work out an extension for the 29-year-old former first-round pick.

As you can see, Reddick has morphed into an elite pass rusher since the former Arizona Cardinals draft pick struggled in three seasons with the team.

As for Philadelphia, it just recently signed fellow EDGE rusher Bryce Huff away from the New York Jets in NFL free agency. The Eagles also worked out a new deal with Josh Sweat, clearly indicating that they are planning on trading Reddick.
