New Orleans Pelicans power forward Zion Williamson will miss Wednesday night’s road game against the Minnesota Timberwolves due to personal reasons.

This is the second contest Williamson will miss this season. He was held out for rest against the Detroit Pistons last Thursday.

In the offseason, Williamson revealed that his girlfriend was slated to give birth in November.

Williamson, 23, is averaging 21.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists in six games this season. The No. 1 overall pick in 2019 has played in just 120 games in four-plus NBA seasons.

Also, the Pelicans revealed that guard CJ McCollum is healing well from a collapsed right lung. The team said McCollum will be re-evaluated at a later date.

This is the same lung that collapsed in December 2021, when McCollum played for the Portland Trail Blazers.

New Orleans also said that guard Jose Alvarado could return to practice in one to two weeks. Alvarado hasn’t played this season due to a sprained right ankle.

Pelicans coach Willie Green said prior to Wednesday’s game that forward Herbert Jones (leg) also has been ruled out.
