New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson is being held out of Thursday’s home game against the Detroit Pistons to allow him to rest.

The Pelicans decided to hold Williamson, 23, out of the second end of a back-to-back. New Orleans defeated the host Oklahoma City Thunder 110-106 on Wednesday.

Fellow star Brandon Ingram (right knee) is questionable for the Pistons after missing the previous two games.

Williamson had 20 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists against the Thunder. The No. 1 overall pick in 2019 is averaging 21.5 points and 6.8 rebounds through four games.

The Pelicans are playing it safe with Williamson after he played in just 29 games last season. He has played in just 118 games in four-plus seasons since entering the league.

Ingram averaged 22.5 points in New Orleans’ first two games. New Orleans is 3-1.
