Report: Packers release RB Knile Davis

The Green Bay Packers’ experiment with Knile Davis is over almost as quickly as it began. Not even two weeks after trading for Davis, Green Bay has reportedly cut ties with the running back.

There’s certainly some surprise here.

With injuries to Eddie Lacy and James Starks, the Packers have a depleted group of running backs. Given Mike McCarthy’s recent commitment to the run (read more about that here), cutting ties with one of the few healthy backs on the roster seems like an odd decision.

With that said, Davis has been completely ineffective with Green Bay.

The Packers certainly need to improve their running game. Even so, there’s no reason to believe that Davis will contribute to that cause.

Starks is likely out for a few more weeks, while Lacy is on IR. So, via either the waiver wire or trade, Green Bay could again be looking for outside help to improve the running game.
