Old Dominion dismissed leading scorer Vasean Allette from the men’s basketball team for “conduct unbecoming of a Monarch,” the school announced on Sunday.

Monarchs acting head coach Kieran Donohue gave the same reason and declined further comment after holding Allette out of the team’s home game Saturday, a 76-70 loss to Georgia Southern in Sun Belt Conference play.

Allette, a freshman guard, started the first 18 games of the season, then came off the bench in a loss to James Madison on Wednesday, when he scored 15 points in 33 minutes.

He leads the team with 17.4 points per game, the second-best average in the Sun Belt. He also averages 5.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.8 steals in 32.2 minutes per game.

Allette was recruited out of United Scholastic Academy in Toronto, Ontario, with his twin brother Yamari, who remains on the roster.

Old Dominion (5-16, 1-8 Sun Belt) has been without head coach Jeff Jones, who suffered a heart attack on Dec. 20 and also is being treated for prostate cancer.
