Shaylee Gonzales scored a season-high 21 points as No. 5 Texas warmed up for the start of Big 12 play with a 97-52 rout of Jackson State on Wednesday in Austin, Texas.

Gonzales, a senior guard, matched her career high with six 3-pointers and added five assists. Madison Booker (16 points), Khadija Faye (14), DeYona Gaston (13) and Shay Holle (10) also scored in double figures for the Longhorns (13-0). Texas improved to 8-0 at home.

Andriana Avent logged 11 points for the Lady Tigers (5-6). Jackson State’s Miya Crump, Zakiya Mahoney and Tilan Boler each put up 10 points.

Texas trailed 6-5 before reeling off the next 13 points, capped by a Booker layup. Crump scored to end Jackson State’s drought, but the Longhorns then added the last five points of the first quarter to lead 23-8. The margin grew in each succeeding period.

The Longhorns open their final Big 12 season with a home game against No. 10 Baylor on Saturday. The Lady Tigers have a nine-day layoff before they tip off Southwestern Athletic Conference action on Jan. 6 vs. Alcorn State.
