No. 4 Jessica Pegula of the United States had no trouble dispatching Italy’s Jasmine Paolini 6-4, 6-0, on Thursday before rain halted play in Montreal.

Pegula, who advanced to the quarterfinals with the 69-minute victory, finished with six aces to one double fault. Pegula also broke Paolini five times on 11 chances.

Seeking her first National Bank Open title after consecutive semifinal appearances at the event, Pegula will play the winner of No. 6 Coco Gauff of the U.S. — Pegula’s doubles partner — and No. 9 seed Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic.

After a three-hour rain delay, play resumed before being halted eight minutes later.

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland and Czech No. 14 seed Karolina Muchova were tied at one set apiece before the first rain delay. Swiatek went up a break in the third set before the match was suspended a second time.

In other action before the second rain delay, No. 10 Daria Kasatkina of Russia and Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic were tied 2-2 in the second set after Kasatkina took the first set 6-3.

Canada’s Leylah Fernandez was scheduled to face American Danielle Collins after the Swiatek-Muchova match. No. 3 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan was scheduled to take on American Sloane Stephens.

The late match between No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus and No. 15 Liudmila Samsonova of Russia was taken off Thursday’s schedule.
