The New York Mets hope to make bigger headlines moving forward this offseason. But the team did add to its depth on Wednesday in a trade with the National League rival Milwaukee Brewers.

According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, New York has picked up pitcher Adrian Houser and outfielder Tyrone Taylor from the Brewers in exchange for pitching prospect Coleman Crow.

This gives the Mets a potential back-of-the-rotation arm as well as another bat in the outfield. Houser, 30, is pretty much the headliner in this deal. The veteran has pitched regularly with Milwaukee since the 2019 season, starting a combined 97 games during that span. This past season saw him pitch to an 8-5 record with a 4.12 ERA and 1.39 WHIP.

At the very least, the veteran could contend for the fifth spot in New York’s rotation or be considered a long man out of the bullpen.

Taylor, 29, has posted double-digit homers each of the past three seasons. The right-handed bat is, however, a mere .239 hitter with a .746 OPS throughout his careeer. He’ll add depth in the outfield.

In exchange for the two veterans, New York sends out a pitching prospect it acquired in the Eduardo Escobar deal with the Los Angeles Angels ahead of the in-season MLB trade deadline.

Crow, 22, is expected to miss the entire 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery. He’s been stellar at the lower levels of the minors, pitching to a combined 15-6 record with a 4.33 ERA since the Angels made him a 26th-round pick out of Pike County High School in Georgia back in 2019.
