New York Jets ‘expected’ to aggressively pursue Davante Adams trade with Las Vegas Raiders in 2024

New York Jets, Davante Adams trade

The New York Jets attempted to improve their offense at the 2023 NFL trade deadline by pursuing a trade for Davante Adams. After being turned down by the Las Vegas Raiders, it appears the Jets’ front office will be even more aggressive this offseason.

Adams, who turns 31 in December, had previously expressed some interest privately to the Raiders’ organization in playing elsewhere before Josh McDaniels was fired. Since McDaniels’ firing, the All-Pro wideout has been happy in Las Vegas and the Raiders’ organization wants to keep him.

However, after another disastrous season for the Jets’ offense, New York reportedly might not take no for an answer. With the team already committed to its all-in approach with Aaron Rodgers in 2024, trade talks with the Raiders will be revisited.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets are expected to contact the Raiders early next offseason about a potential trade for Adams. While Las Vegas wants to keep one of its top players and team leaders, Schefter writes that New York “might not be willing to take no for an answer”, based on conversations with league sources.

While the Raiders have been opposed to trading Adams, league sources told ESPN that they believe the approach could change depending on how the season winds down. If Las Vegas stays competitive and wins more games, it’s very possible he could stay with the team next year.

However, the Jets have wanted to reunite Adams with Rodgers for a while. If the Raiders struggle down the stretch, it increases the likelihood of Adams requesting a trade next offseason. In that scenario, it’s possible Las Vegas relents and trades him to a contender.

New York is already without its second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, used to acquire Rodgers last offseason. Instead, the Jets could offer their first-round pick in exchange for Adams and a Day 2 selection or New York could trade one of its early picks in 2025 for Adams.
