NetsGC, Lakers win Slam Open bracket-play openers

Top-seeded NetsGC and second-seeded Lakers Gaming earned victories Thursday as double-elimination bracket play began in the NBA 2K League’s 3v3 Slam Open.

The Nets thrashed Dreamshakers 3-0, prevailing 21-18, 22-15 and 22-14. Alexander “Steez” Bernstein paced the Nets with an average of eight points per game.

The Lakers edged Glitchy 3-2, taking the decisive game 21-14. The teams alternated victories, with the Lakers opening with a 21-11 win, taking a 22-20 loss, earning a 23-20 victory and then absorbing a 21-17 defeat.

Dhwan “ShiftyKaii” White averaged 10.4 points and four assists for the Lakers.

In other matches, Blazer5 Gaming beat Dribble Godz 3-1, Pacers Gaming swept GCL Underdogs 3-0, Heat Check Gaming nipped Isles Gaming Team 3-2, Mavs Gaming trounced Warriors Gaming Squad 3-0, 76ers GC defeated DUX Infinitos 3-1, Magic Gaming got past NBL Oz Gaming 3-2, T-Wolves Gaming downed Triple Threat 3-0, Celtics Crossover Gaming dumped Raptors Uprising GC 3-1, Grizz Gaming pounded Jazz Gaming 3-0 and Knicks Gaming handled Cavs Legion GC 3-1.

Play continues Friday with four first-round matches — Gen.G Tigers vs. Wizards District Gaming, Kings Guard Gaming vs. Pistons GT, Rim Runners vs. Hornets Venom GT, Hawks Talon GC vs. Bucks Gaming — and eight other matches.

The Slam Open is the first of 3v3 tournaments in the NBA 2K League season, with the Switch Open (March 20-April 6) and the Steal Open (April 19-20) to follow. The playoffs are set for April 24-27 in Washington.
