Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach steps down from team just days ahead of season opener

Milwaukee Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks recently added one of the top point guards in the NBA to an already strong roster that also features Giannis Antetokounmpo. Lillard’s addition makes a team that’s already viewed as a contender into one of the NBA Finals favorites. But not all is well with the Bucks.

The Bucks just played on Tuesday night, losing 124-101 to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Their next preseason game is scheduled for Friday when they host the Memphis Grizzlies in their exhibition finale.

But assistant coach Terry Stotts won’t be joining them.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Stotts has stepped down from his role as the Bucks’ assistant coach after two seasons with the team. The former Portland Trail Blazers leader was Lillard’s head coach with the Portland Trail Blazers for nine seasons before getting relieved of his duties in 2021.

Stotts and Lillard combined for eight playoff appearances in Portland, getting as far as the Western Conference Finals in 2019. Oddly enough, he won’t be working with Lillard again this season.

The Bucks tip off their regular season on Thursday, Oct. 26, when they host the Philadelphia 76ers at 7:30 PM ET on TNT.
