NFL Draft prospect Michael Jefferson involved in car accident, undergoes multiple surgeries

Louisiana-Lafayette wide receiver Michael Jefferson is expected to go in the mid rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft after a tremendous final season of college football.

Unfortunately, there is more on the 6-foot-4 receiver’s plate right now. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report Tuesday afternoon that Jefferson was involved in a multi-car accident Sunday night in Mobile, Alabama.

Jefferson is currently hospitalized after undergoing multiple surgeries. There is no concrete information on the type of of injuries Jefferson suffered or his current condition. We’ll obviously have more updates when they become available.

A native of Mobile, Michael Jefferson originally committed to Alabama State. He transferred to Louisiana ahead of the 2021 season and put up some solid numbers. That included Jefferson tallying 51 receptions for 810 yards and seven touchdowns in 2022. He was named honorable mention all-conference in 2021 and third-team all-conference last season.

Jefferson took part in the NFL Scouting Combine earlier this year, putting up a 4.56 40-yard dash and 1.52 10-yard split. He’s considerd a potential possession receiver at the NFL level.

The hope here is that these injuries are not serious. As noted above, Sportsnaut will provide more updates on Michael Jefferson’s status once they become available.
