Micah Parsons won’t be switching positions to defensive end after all

While the Dallas Cowboys may be months away from making their 2023 season debut against the New York Giants in Week 1 on Sunday Night Football, the organization seems to be having some difficulties agreeing on what position Micah Parsons will play.

Just ten days ago, Parsons revealed he was bulking up, in a move that one Cowboys insider reported was done in anticipation of making the full-time switch to playing defensive end instead of linebacker.

However, that may not be the case according to defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who’s in charge of who lines up where.

In speaking to the media, Quinn insisted that Parsons is a “pass-rushing linebacker.” In fact, Quinn went further, saying Parsons misspoke earlier this offseason.

“If you ever need position changes, come to me. What I think he was probably trying to say is, ‘I’m really emphasizing some pass rush into my offseason.”

Just emphasizing some pass rush, huh? Even though 738 of his 917 defensive snaps were spent on the defensive line instead of at linebacker in 2022?

Who knows what the Cowboys are planning to do with Parsons this season, but the idea that he’ll spend most of his time as a pass-rusher isn’t groundbreaking news since that’s what he’s done since joining the NFL in 2021. Whether you call him a linebacker or defensive end really doesn’t matter. Teams know what to expect from the sack specialist.
