The Miami Marlins have reportedly offered a contract to an All-Star shortstop who could be a major impact player for the team in 2024.

Unsurprisingly, this has been a quiet offseason for the Miami Marlins. The organization has one of the lowest payrolls in the sport and they again lived up to that reputation this winter. Heck, there were even rumors of them trading some of their young pitchers, as opposed to adding proven starters for the new season.

However, Miami fans hoping the team could improve upon a team that won 84 games last year may have some hope that they actually could make a notable addition with spring training getting underway around MLB.

On Friday, The Athletic MLB insider Ken Rosenthal revealed that the Miami Marlins “recently made an offer to free agent Tim Anderson, according to sources briefed on the discussions.”

It is surprising that the 30-year-old is still available on the open market, but the two-time All-Star had a shockingly bad season in 2023. After four straight years where he hit over .300 and was becoming one of the best shortstops in the sport, he hit just .245 last season while posting career lows in RBIs, runs, and home runs for seasons where he played 100 or more games.

Furthermore, the Chicago White Sox veteran has developed a reputation as an outspoken player who rubs many players and media wrong. The biggest moment — or low point — for him in 2023 was being floored by a punch from José Ramírez of the Cleveland Guardians during a brawl in August.

Nevertheless, he would be a huge upgrade at shortstop and if he can return to his previous form, he’d be a massive addition to the Marlins lineup this season.
