The Miami Heat enter the 2020 offseason looking to improve their team for another run at the NBA Finals. Many rumors have circulated such as Victor Oladipo, Jrue Holiday, and LaMarcus Aldridge. However, the organization may be looking for bigger names.

According to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, the Miami Heat have likely backed away from the possibility of landing Pacers guard Victor Oladipo. This may be because the Heat have their eye on bigger fish either this year or in the 2021 offseason.

Oladipo averaged 14.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 19 games last season. He missed the majority of the season recovering from an injury sustained during the 2018-2019 season.

Miami Heat trade rumors: Trade targets for Miami

The Heat have been known to make big moves in efforts to make the NBA Finals. They brought LeBron James and Chris Bosh to form the “Big 3” in 2010. Last offseason, they pulled off a sign-and-trade for Jimmy Butler despite having minimal cap space and a bleak future.

According to reports, the Miami Heat may have interest in trading for Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday. Holiday has one year left on his deal with a player option for the 2021-’22 season. Other players the Heat have highly coveted before are Bradley Beal, DeMar DeRozan, and LaMarcus Aldridge.

They also have their sights set on making a huge push to sign Giannis Antetokounmpo during the 2021 offseason. Many people within the Milwaukee Bucks organization are confident that Antetokounmpo will sign a super-max extension before the 2021 season. However, if they are unable to complete a deal, the Heat will go all-out for the two-time MVP winner.

The bottom line

The Miami Heat are looking to land a big fish for another title push. However, the logistics behind a deal have to make sense. It’s understandable why Miami wouldn’t be interested in Victor Oladipo. He is coming off a major injury and struggled during the regular season last year.

Bradley Beal and Jrue Holiday are two players that would make a greater impact with fewer injury concerns. While it would take many assets to make a move for either player, it may be worth it to maximize Jimmy Butler’s prime and for a potential return to the NBA Finals. This could happen while still saving room for Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2021.

Whatever Miami decides to do, the organization’s future is brighter than it has been in a long time. The organization has many options in front of them, but it’s up to them to make the move that best helps them bring a fourth banner to the city.
