Marques Colston Restructures Contract to Remain with the Saints

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport is reporting that the New Orleans Saints have restructured wide receiver Marques Colston’s contract. This moves enables him to remain with the team for a 10th season.

The Saints, who are approximately $15.8 million over the salary cap, needed to make some quick adjustments prior to the start of free agency on Tuesday. Before hearing the news of the restructure, cutting Colston seemed like a logical choice. Not wanting to experience what could be a cold market, the 31-year-old receiver must have decided taking a pay cut was a better option.

As Colston enters his 10th year with the Saints, we will likely see his production decrease even further from a 2014 season that saw him put up 902 yards. This is partially due to the emergence of wide receiver Kenny Stills and last year’s first-round pick Brandin Cooks.

Colston is the Saints all-time leader in receptions (666), receiving yards (9,239) and receiving touchdowns (68).
