Mark Ingram working out with Lane Kiffin during suspension

New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram is not allowed at the New Orleans Saints’ facilities during his suspension. But thanks to his Alabama ties, he has a place to work out.

Ingram, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2009 with the Crimson Tide, is working out at Florida Atlantic University. FAU, of course, is coached by Lane Kiffin, Alabama’s former offensive coordinator.

“He wasn’t allowed to practice with our team because of the new NCAA rules against that, but when we were done, we padded him up and put him through a workout, me and [FAU running backs coach] Kevin Smith,” Kiffin said, per ESPN’s Chris Low. “He got after it and wants to make sure he’s ready to go and in football shape when he gets back with the Saints.”

It’s worth noting that Ingram and Kiffin were not at Alabama at the same time. Ingram last played for the Crimson Tide in 2010, while Kiffin was at Alabama from 2014-2016.

But that didn’t matter to the FAU coach. Of letting Ingram work out at FAU, Kiffin said that “it’s the least I could do. We’re both part of the Alabama family.”

Ingram is in the midst of a four-game suspension for PEDs. He’ll be eligible to return in Week 5, when New Orleans hosts the Washington Redskins on “Monday Night Football.”
