Magic, Lakers earn tight wins in NBA 2K League’s Slam Open

Magic Gaming and Lakers Gaming both earned 3-2 wins on Thursday to advance to the upper-bracket semifinals of the NBA 2K League’s 3v3 Slam Open.

The Magic opened with 22-14 and 22-20 wins over Heat Check Gaming, who bounced back for 22-14 and 21-19 victories. In the decisive fifth game, the Magic prevailed 22-16.

Knicks Gaming earned a 21-19 win before the Lakers ran off 23-19 and 21-17 victories. The Knicks extended the series with a 23-14 win, but the Lakers sealed the series with a 21-13 triumph.

The Magic’s next opponent will be NetsGC, who beat Pistons GT 3-1. The Lakers are set to face off with Hawks Talon GC, who defeated the Gen.G Tigers 3-1.

Community team Rim Runners earned two wins on Thursday to advance to the fourth round of the lower bracket. Rim Runners topped Jazz Gaming 3-1 and Pacers Gaming 3-2. The Pacers earlier swept Warriors Gaming Squad 3-0.

In other third-round action in the lower bracket, Grizz Gaming beat Wizards District Gaming 3-2, 76ers GC topped T-Wolves Gaming 3-1 and Celtics Crossover Gaming blanked Isles Gaming Team 3-0.

Bracket play for the Slam Open continues Friday and concludes Saturday.

The Slam Open is the first of 3v3 tournaments in the NBA 2K League season, with the Switch Open (March 20-April 6) and the Steal Open (April 19-20) to follow. The playoffs are set for April 24-27 in Washington.
