LSU linebacker Damone Clark is entering the 2022 NFL draft and will skip the Tigers’ appearance in the Texas Bowl on Jan. 4.

He thanked his family and LSU family on social media Wednesday as he announced he was taking the next step in his career.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound senior was a leader of the LSU defense in 2021. In 12 games, he recorded 135 tackles (15.5 for loss) and 5.5 sacks. He added two forced fumbles, four passes defensed and an interception.

In four seasons at LSU, he played in 50 games and had 249 tackles (23.5 for loss) and 10 sacks.

LSU (6-6) will meet Kansas State (7-5) in the Texas Bowl at NRG Stadium in Houston, and the Tigers are reportedly expected to be seriously undermanned.

Between the loss of players to the transfer portal and opt-outs for the draft, LSU could have only 51 players available, and that includes some just recently signed to scholarships, reported Jacob Hester, a former Tigers player and the co-host of the morning show on 104.5 ESPN radio in Baton Rouge.
