It seems that the news of Lewis Hamilton moving to Ferrari for the 2025 F1 season was so massive that the superstar driver even kept it from his parents.
Last week brought the long-rumored but still massive news that racing great Lewis Hamilton was ending his relationship with Mercedes and would be taking his talents to the iconic Ferrari team after this season. The idea of the seven-time World Driver’s Championship winner going to Ferrari has been speculated about for years.

Furthermore, it is the worst-kept secret in the sport that the Englishman and Ferrari President John Elkann are pals and have bandied about the notion of teaming up. Nevertheless, the 39-year-old making the jump still never happened — that is until now. However, such industry-changing news needed to be held tightly under wraps until it was truly official.
Lewis Hamilton on secrecy of Ferrari team move: ‘No one knew’
Well, to make sure the huge story never got leaked, Lewis Hamilton revealed in a conversation with the Associated Press this week that to keep things a secret he didn’t even tell the people who gave him the genes to be a legendary driver.
“I didn’t speak to anybody. I didn’t tell my parents till the day of it being announced. So, no one knew,” Hamilton said. “I really wanted to do it for myself. Ultimately, I had to find out what would be the best for me.”

The plan worked because the world did not know about the news until Hamilton and the Ferrari team revealed it on their terms last week.
However, not only were Hamilton’s parents in the dark about the news but even his Mercedes teammates did not find out until the day before the story was unveiled to the rest of the industry. That should lead to a very interesting final season for the star driver and his coworkers at Mercedes for this final season together.
