Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin will sit out the team’s next two games while continuing to recover from a concussion.

Muzzin has missed four games since being injured on Jan. 15 in a collision with Klim Kostin of the St. Louis Blues. Muzzin will sit out against the visiting New Jersey Devils on Monday and again the following night in the back end of the home-and-home series in Newark, N.J.

With the upcoming All-Star break, the Maple Leafs don’t play again until Feb. 7 — a home game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

“He’s going to take a bit of a step back here with the break upcoming,” Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said. “He was not going to be available to play in either of these games, so it just made sense to do that. The (medical staff) is going to continue to monitor him and work with him with hopes to ramp things up as we get back from the break and perhaps even throughout the break in his case.”

Muzzin, 32, has recorded 11 points (one goal, 10 assists) in 35 games this season.

A Stanley Cup winner with Los Angeles, Muzzin has 290 points (67 goals, 223 assists) and a plus-66 rating in 667 career games with the Kings and Maple Leafs.
