Las Vegas Raiders’ general manager search now reportedly includes familiar name

The Las Vegas Raiders have a new full-time head coach after they opted to hire interim guy Antonio Pierce for the job.

Surprisingly, the Raiders still have not hired a new general manager to run things after Dave Ziegler was fired with former head coach Josh McDaniels during the 2023 NFL regular season.

Most figured the head coach and GM hires would be done in concert with one another. Interim GM Champ Kelly is seen as a favorite to land the job a long with current Indianapolis Colts assistant general manager Ed Dodds.

However, another familiar name can now be added to the list of candidates in Las Vegas. According to Vic Tafur of The Athletic, former Los Angeles Chargers general manager Tom Telesco is conducting a second interview with the Raiders’ brass on Monday.

Telesco spent the better part of 11 years with the Chargers before he joined head coach Brandon Staley in being fired during the regular season.

Does Tom Telesco make sense for the Las Vegas Raiders?

The 51-year-old Telesco has a whole host of experience within NFL front offices. In addition to being the Chargers’ general manager from 2013-23, he served in different roles with the Indianapolis Colts (2001-12), Carolina Panthers (1995-97) and Buffalo Bills (1991-94).

In no way does this mean that he’s a fit with the Raiders. Telesco struggled from a player personnel standpoint during a majority of his time in Southern California. The Chargers earned just three playoff appearances during his time with the organization. They also posted five wins or less a total of four times.

As for the Raiders’ overall search for a new GM, the aforementioned Kelly sat in on interviews to find a new head coach. That could be a tell about what direction owner Mark Davis and Co. are headed.
