LaDainian Tomlinson: Raiders moving to San Diego ‘would be awful’

One of the all-time greats as a member of the former San Diego Chargers, LaDainian Tomlinson has some strong feelings about the Oakland Raiders potentially moving to the city he loves.

Tomlinson, who could be announced as a Hall of Fame inductee this weekend, was asked how he would feel if the Raiders did move south to San Diego.

It was a question he deigned to answer.

“Please, do I have to comment on that one?” asked Tomlinson, (h/t Eric D. Williams of ESPN). “I mean, that should tell you how I feel about that. That would be awful.”

The reason the question was asked in the first place is that Oakland suddenly ran into a huge brick wall in terms of potentially moving to Las Vegas this week. Casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson backed out of the deal, which in turn caused Goldman Sachs to back out as well.

All of a sudden, the “sure thing” move to Vegas is teetering on the brink of extinction.

This brings into play the notion that the Raiders could move down to San Diego now that the Chargers have committed to moving to Los Angeles to share a brand new stadium with the Los Angeles Rams (scheduled to be ready for the 2019 season).

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the most popular move ever and 1 being the worst move in the history of the NFL, the Raiders moving to San Diego might rank below zero, especially in the eyes of the fine folks living in sunny southern California.

It’s not surprising that such a turn of events would turn Tomlinson’s stomach, and we have to believe pretty much everyone who ever rooted for the Chargers and against the Raiders feels the same way.
