Could Knowshon Moreno Start for the Dolphins?

Miami Dolphins running back Knowshon Moreno made his preseason debut for his new team this past weekend in a victory against the Dallas Cowboys.

While head coach Joe Philbin had both Knowshon Moreno and Lamar Miller playing snaps over the weekend, Moreno clearly shined playing the first half of the game and finishing with 64 yards on 10 touches. Of Moreno’s 64 yards, his biggest gain was a 19-yard sprint on the first handoff.

Miller played later in the third quarter and had seven touches totaling 34 yards, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. He also had a couple of catches for three yards.

Moreno didn’t seem to miss a beat returning to the field, despite spending the summer recovering from knee surgery after signing with the Dolphins.

As far as word on which running back will start for the Dolphins, Philbin had this to say (via ESPN).

We haven’t released anything. We’re still evaluating right up until we name our starter. I thought (Moreno) played well.

Just two months ago, Moreno was looking like the lame horse in the Dolphins’ running back race. Now Moreno looks just as fresh as he did while wearing his Broncos uniform when he rushed for 1,038 yards and ran in 10 touchdowns last season

It certainly will be worth monitoring which running back prevails as the Dolphins play their last preseason game against Rams this Thursday.
