Knicks sign G Miles McBride to contract extension

The New York Knicks signed point guard Miles McBride to a contract extension.

The team did not announce financial terms for the deal, completed Saturday, but Spotrac pegged its as a three-year, $13 million veteran extension.

McBride, 23, is playing this season on a three-year, $4.3 million contract signed in August 2021, with the current season the team’s option year.

A defensive-minded guard, McBride is averaging 2.1 points and 5.3 minutes per game while appearing in 19 games this season, including a season-high 18 minutes in a 140-126 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Saturday. For his career, McBride is averaging 2.8 points and 10.0 minutes in 123 games (four starts) in parts of three seasons with the Knicks.

The team shuffled its roster Saturday in a trade with the Toronto Raptors. The Knicks acquired forward OG Anunoby, center Precious Achiuwa and point guard Malachi Flynn, with guards RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley and a 2024 second-round draft pick going to Toronto.

McBride was a second-round draft selection (36th overall) by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2021 NBA Draft out of West Virginia. He was traded the next day to the Knicks.
