New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby underwent surgery to remove a loose bone fragment from his right elbow, the team said Thursday.

Anunoby will be re-evaluated in three weeks. Reports said Anunoby’s procedure was minor and he should be able to return to basketball activities in three weeks’ time.

Anunoby, 26, helped transform the Knicks after he was traded from the Toronto Raptors to New York in late December. The Knicks are 12-2 when Anunoby plays, and they recently strung together a nine-game winning streak that ended with a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers last Saturday.

However, Anunoby has not played since Jan. 27, missing five games due to his ailing elbow. It was originally termed elbow inflammation before the Knicks’ injury report was adjusted to say “bone spur irritation.”

Known as a top-notch defender, Anunoby has averaged 15.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.1 blocks per game in 14 appearances (all starts) for the Knicks. In his 409-game career with Toronto (2017-23) and New York, Anunoby has posted 12.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per contest.
