Dolphins HC Brian Flores hints Josh Rosen won’t start any time soon

Josh Rosen has a chance for a fresh new start as a member of the Miami Dolphins after being discarded like old tissue paper by the Arizona Cardinals.

Yet based on what head coach Brian Flores said about the second-year quarterback’s development, it may be some time before we see Rosen starting games for the Fins.

Flores complimented Rosen for his talent, leadership, big arm and his smarts. Then he said, “But he’s got a lot to learn. There’s no doubt about that,” per Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post.

The rookie head coach elaborated, saying, “This offense, it’s not an easy one to learn. There’s something new every day. He’s improving, he’s getting better every day. I like that.”

It’s a nice mix of encouragement and stark reality from Flores concerning Rosen.

So far, beat reporters have unanimously stated that veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick has been the best quarterback during OTAs. Not surprisingly, he’s getting the majority of work with the Dolphins’ first-team offense.

Based on what Flores said about Rosen learning the offense, and what we’re seeing on the practice field, it’s clear that the former UCLA star has a lot of work in front of him to supplant Fitzpatrick from the starting lineup this year.
