Johnny Manziel: Baker Mayfield can learn from me

Baker Mayfield is one of the best prospects in the 2018 NFL draft, but his occasional antics have resulted in comparisons to once-troubled quarterback Johnny Manziel. The former pro knows he’s an example of what not to do.

During an appearance on Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” podcast (h/t Ohio.com), Manziel said Mayfield can learn from his mistakes.

“I have all the faith in the world in him. I think he’s going to be a really good player, and if anything, people can compare him to me, but he can learn from what I did wrong. He can try and take something that I did and make it a positive for him.”

Manziel flamed out of the league because of emotional and addiction issues, which the former Texas A&M star appears to have reconciled. He’s currently making the rounds in media sharing his story while attempting a comeback to football.

And he certainly is an example for incoming players — not just Mayfield.

Nevertheless, the comparisons will be made due to the Oklahoma quarterback’s arrest in 2017. Mayfield also let his emotions take over in trash talk against Baylor and Kansas, for example.

Manziel recognizes and admits his mistakes, and hopefully Mayfield and every other rookie will learn from him.
