General manager John Elway declined to give specifics on the Denver Broncos’ quarterback plans this offseason, telling reporters at the NFL Combine that the team was open to anything.

When it comes to quarterbacks, the Broncos certainly have options. They could keep last year’s starter Trevor Siemian, who is under contract for the next two seasons. Elway could also hand the reins to Paxton Lynch, who was selected by Denver in the first round of The 2016 NFL Draft. Lynch’s salary is also small potatoes — he’s still on his rookie deal — but the Memphis product struggled in the two starts he made last season.
There’s also been rumors surrounding a potential move for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo (more on that here). Romo has been injured for the better part of the last two seasons. But if healthy, he could rejuvenate Denver’s passing offense.
Elway could also go with none of the above and make a move for Colin Kaepernick, Jay Cutler, Mike Glennon, Ryan Fitzpatrick or any one of the quarterbacks currently on the market. With the Browns listening to offers for the first overall pick in the draft, perhaps Denver will consider putting all of its chips toward the center and trading up to select a quarterback.
Either way we spin it, the Broncos are not necessarily giving a vote of confidence to their two current quarterbacks. This could be an indication that something might be in the cards when free agency starts next week.
