Jim Harbaugh won’t yet reveal starting QB

Jim Harbaugh hired former 49ers executive Tom Gamble, according to a report

Shea Patterson is expected to lead the Michigan Wolverines offense in 2018, but Jim Harbaugh isn’t ready to declare the Ole Miss transfer the starter.

According to Nick Baumgardner of the Detroit Free Press, the fourth-year coach said he’s looking to make the decision but wouldn’t give any hints.

This is a familiar route from Harbaugh, who has refused to name starting quarterbacks throughout his Michigan tenure. This season, though, the answer is so obvious.

Patterson racked up 2,259 yards and 17 touchdowns in seven appearances last year. Conversely, as a team, the Wolverines totaled 2,226 yards and only nine scores through the air for the whole season.

Brandon Peters and Dylan McCaffrey could still be competent starters, but Patterson is the clear choice for 2018 — no matter how long Harbaugh delays announcing it.
