Report: Jamie Collins signs deal, returns to Patriots

Jesse Reed

The New England Patriots have reportedly brought back linebacker Jamie Collins, who signed his contract with the franchise on Wednesday per Jim McBride of the Boston Globe.

Previously, it had been reported that a deal was likely to be coming for Collins, who was traded from New England to Cleveland in 2016. At the time, Collins was looking for a big payday but Bill Belichick dealt him instead of paying him.

Originally a second-round pick out of Southern Miss, Collins played his first four seasons with the Patriots. After three seasons with the Browns, he was released in a cost-cutting move, making him a free agent.

Over the course of his career, he has tallied 494 tackles, 17.5 sacks and seven interceptions.

Now he’s back where it all started and should have a chance to make an immediate impact for the defending champs in 2019.
