James Harrison not thrilled about Steelers’ holiday schedule

NFL Draft

After much anticipation, the NFL released the league’s 32-team schedule, which assigned the Pittsburgh Steelers games on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

While some might consider this a jackpot of prime-time exposure for the Steelers, veteran linebacker James Harrison was none-to-thrilled to find out he’ll be working on three holidays this season.

“Retirement sounds better than ever when you realize you’d have to work on Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year’s.”

Many would argue that Harrison gets paid a pretty penny to be at work, but being away from his kids on the holidays can’t be easy, regardless. The 700-plus comments to Harrison’s post vary wildly, with some voicing support of retirement and others encouraging “Silverback” to keep playing.

This May, Harrison turns 38, which makes him one of the oldest players still active in the NFL. Therefore, it is not surprising to hear the word “retirement” emerge.

Harrison originally went undrafted and joined the Steelers in 2002. During his 13-year career he has recorded a total of 76.5 sacks, 734 combined tackles, and seven interceptions. This includes playing one year with his AFC North rival Cincinnati Bengals in 2013.

When Harrison finally makes the decision to hang up his cleats, he will do so after being selected to play in five Pro Bowls while achieving All-Pro status twice during his career.

Regarding the holiday games, the Steelers travel to face the Indianapolis Colts on Thanksgiving Day and host the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns on Christmas and New Year’s day, respectively.
