Jaguars re-sign backup QB Chad Henne

If Blake Bortles is injured or continues to struggle in 2017, at least the Jacksonville Jaguars have a tenured veteran behind him to take his place. Chad Henne and the Jaguars agreed to a new contract on Wednesday, the team announced.

The new contract was worked up instead of the team picking up an option on his previous contract.

“With nine years of NFL experience, Chad has an abundance of knowledge in professional football,” Jaguars Head Coach Doug Marrone said in a statement. “Chad provides leadership to our offensive meeting room.”

In his nine years, Henne has played in 65 games and has started 53, 22 of which he started for the Jaguars. Throughout his career, Henne has passed for 12,931 yards, 58 touchdowns and 63 interceptions.

Terms of the new contract between Henne and the Jaguars have not been disclosed.
