The Houston Texans were already good last season, and now, after making a few more significant additions, they’re one of the most improved teams of the offseason. But most of these improvements have come on defense, adding star pass-rusher Danielle Hunter while making other changes to the front seven and secondary.

But so far, Joe Mixon has been Houston’s biggest free agency signing on offense. He should help improve a rushing offense that averaged just 3.7 YPC (29th in NFL), but what about C.J. Stroud? Are there plans to get the budding superstar more offensive weapons?

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Houston Texans also tried trading for Keenan Allen. The six-time Pro Bowl receiver was recently traded from the Los Angeles Chargers to the Chicago Bears for the low cost of a fourth-round pick.

Allen has a large cap hit of $23.1 million in 2024, which is the main reason why the cap-strapped Chargers had to part with their 1,000-yard receiver.

The New York Jets were also interested in trading for Allen, but as Russini noted, that was merely a conversation, with no actual trade offers being exchanged. But the story was different in Houston, where she states the Texans were close to landing the star receiver. It’s the latest indication that the front office is still searching for playmakers for Stroud.
