Herschel Walker on Robert Griffin III: ‘Send him down to Dallas’

Robert Griffin III

Washington seems more than happy keeping Robert Griffin III on clipboard duty, stashed neatly on the bench this season as the team’s third-string quarterback.

However, former Cowboys running back Herschel Walker has a suggestion to keep RGIII from wasting away with the team, per JP Finlay of CSN Mid-Atlantic.

“If RGIII’s got nothing to do, and Mr. Snyder doesn’t mind, send him down to Dallas.”

Walker appears to believe that Griffin would be an upgrade to the dreary Dallas quarterback situation featuring Matt Cassel and Brandon Weeden.

A trade is likely not a reality, though Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said he’s a “fan of RGIII,” which was an attraction that occurred after Washington beat Dallas during the Thanksgiving game of 2012.

“He put on a show and had a game that just floored me,” Jones said via Conor Orr of NFL.com. “And they won, and they won in large part because of his play at quarterback. I thought, ‘My goodness, and we’re going to have to be playing this guy for years and years.’ And so he’s got it.”

Washington’s victory over Dallas in 2012 took place in Griffin’s stellar rookie year that seems like about 20 years ago. Since then, RGIII has been riddled with injury and spotty off and on performances, enough so that head coach Jay Gruden deemed RGIII the third-string quarterback behind Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy this season.

With the team sold on Cousins despite his erratic performances thus far in 2015, a trade to Dallas would likely be the only way we would see Griffin in action this year.

For Griffin’s sake, perhaps Walker can get in Jones’ ear with his proposition. From a sideline standpoint, the Cowboys are in desperate trouble until Tony Romo is able to return sometime in November, so why not give Griffin a shot?
