Cleveland Guardians first baseman Josh Naylor was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a right oblique strain.

The move is retroactive to Tuesday.

Naylor leads Cleveland with 79 RBIs and a .306 batting average with 15 homers in 96 games.

His absence comes after the Guardians dealt first baseman/designated hitter Josh Bell to the Miami Marlins at the trade deadline.

Naylor, 26, is slugging .500 and is on pace to surpass last season’s career best of 20 homers. His 79 RBIs match last season’s career-high output.

Cleveland also placed infielder Tyler Freeman on the IL. Freeman, 24, is batting .286 with six RBIs in 38 games.

In corresponding moves, the Guardians recalled infielder Jose Tena from Triple-A Columbus and acquired outfielder Kole Calhoun from the Los Angeles Dodgers for cash considerations.

Calhoun was at Triple-A Oklahoma City for the Dodgers and batted .308 with five homers and 28 RBIs in 35 games. He also played in the minors for the New York Yankees earlier this season and hasn’t yet played in the majors in 2023.

In 11 big league seasons, Calhoun has a .243 average with 173 homers and 557 RBIs in 1,196 games with the Los Angeles Angels (2012-19), Arizona Diamondbacks (2020-21) and Texas Rangers (2022).

Tena, 22, batted .260 with four homers and 37 RBIs in 81 games at Double-A Akron. He also went 1-for-3 with two RBIs in one game for Triple-A Columbus.
