Giants suspend Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie after he leaves team

The New York Giants are an absolute mess right now. At 0-5 on the season, the team just recently lost wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr., Brandon Marshall and Dwyane Harris for the season.

There’s no offensive line to speak of, and rumors about a potential Eli Manning trade are heating up.

Now comes this surprising and somewhat disturbing piece of information from the team itself. According to head coach Ben McAdoo, cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie abruptly left the team’s practice facility on Wednesday and will be suspended.

“DRC came in yesterday. We had a conversation that was personal,” McAdoo said. “Came in today. Decided to leave. We will suspend him.”

The head coach did not provide any further details on the matter.

In an interesting turn, the Giants had previously demoted starting cornerback Eli Apple for Rodgers-Cromartie following last week’s game. Apple, a first-round pick in 2016, was not happy about the decision. Now that he’s likely back in a starting role for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, it will be interesting to see what happens here.

DRC, a Pro Bowler with the Giants back in 2015, is currently playing under a five-year, $35 million deal. It remains to be seen if his tenure with the squad is over.

We’ll have further updates as they become available.
