The Los Angeles Galaxy and forward Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez are parting ways, the club announced Friday.

Chicharito, 35, will not return to the Galaxy in 2024 after the productive goal-scorer spent the past four seasons with them.

“We are grateful to Javier for his dedication and contributions to the LA Galaxy,” head coach and sporting director Greg Vanney said in a statement. “In four seasons with the Galaxy, Javier was a passionate leader for our club on and off the field. We wish him all the best moving forward.”

The Mexican striker played in 82 career matches (71 starts) for Los Angeles from 2020-23 and scored 38 goals with five assists. He had 17 goals in 2021 and 18 in 2022 before being limited to just one over nine matches in 2023, as his season was cut short in June due to a torn ACL in his right knee.

Chicharito’s 38 goals rank seventh all-time in club history.

Before coming to Major League Soccer, he played for his native Guadalajara in Mexico and went to Europe to suit up for Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, West Ham United and Sevilla.

He is the Mexican national team’s all-time leading scorer with 52 goals in 109 appearances.
