Former Detroit Lions practice squad talent Alex Brown was hit with several months of jail time this week over a car accident that injured two people two years ago.

In August of 2021, the Detroit Lions cut ties with cornerback Alex Brown just days before being officially charged with two counts of operating a vehicle while under the influence causing serious injury, and two counts of reckless driving causing serious injury after being involved in a wrong way crash.

In the incident, former teammate Charlie Taumoepeau was also hurt and eventually waived by the Detroit Lions with a non-football injury designation. Brown was reportedly intoxicated and driving at high speeds on the wrong side of Interstate 75. His vehicle struck head-on with another car and injured a 27-year-old motorist.

First responders had to cut Taumoepeau out of the vehicle with the Jaws of Life before being taken to a local hospital with a neck injury.

The punishment for the former Detroit Lions player was levied this week, as The Detroit Free Press reported that Brown was sentenced to “four months in Wayne County jail for a charge of operating a vehicle with a high blood-alcohol content” for his role in the 2021 crash.

“Brown entered a nolo contendre plea on Jan. 23, Wayne County Circuit Court records show, and was sentenced on March 31. He also received two years of probation and paid $778 in court costs and fines, and had two counts of reckless driving causing serious impairment and one count of operating under the influence causing serious injury dismissed.”
