The Carolina Panthers’ receiving corps has been one of their biggest obstacles for a few years now. To help solve the problem, GM Dave Gettleman is meeting with former New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz, according to Black and Blue Review and Mike Garofolo.

Gettleman, who worked in the Giants’ front office when Cruz helped lead them to a Super Bowl XLVI victory, should be naturally attracted to the receiver. However, its unlikely that Cruz is the solution Carolina needs at the position.

Not only are their massive injury questions after Cruz missed 10 games in 2014 and the entire 2015 season due to a torn patellar tendon. There are also questions regarding production. In 15 games last season, Cruz caught just 39 passes for 586 yards. He seemed uncomfortable outside of the slot and underwhelmed, ranking 75th among receivers in both DYAR and DVOA.

The Panthers will certainly take what help they can get. Corey Brown did almost nothing in the slot this season, so Cruz would probably take back his old position should a deal come together. With Cam Newton throwing the football, a resurgence is possible, however unlikely.
