The Miami Dolphins placed starting left guard Isaiah Wynn on injured reserve Tuesday due to a quad injury sustained early in the loss Sunday night to the Philadelphia Eagles.

In a corresponding move, the Dolphins activated cornerback Nik Needham from the physically unable to perform list.

Wynn, 27, started all seven games at left guard in his first season with the Dolphins (5-2) after playing primarily left tackle for the New England Patriots (2018-22). He has started 47 of 50 games in his career since missing the entire 2018 campaign on IR (torn Achilles tendon in preseason) after the Patriots selected him 23rd overall in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Georgia.

He will miss a minimum of four weeks on IR.

“We are getting more information, but it does look like it will be weeks, as it wasn’t a bump or a bruise,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel told reporters Monday. “We’ll gather more for specificity, but it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing him for weeks.”

Needham, 26, missed most of last season and all of this season to this point with a torn Achilles sustained in October 2022. He was designated to return to practice on Oct. 4, and the Dolphins had 21 days to activate him.

He joined the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of UTEP in May 2019 and has played in 51 games, starting 27. He has 192 career tackles, 25 passes defended, three sacks and six interceptions, returning one for a touchdown.
