Detroit Pistons big man Isaiah Stewart was involved in an altercation with Drew Eubanks of the Phoenix Suns ahead of Wednesday’s game in the desert.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Stewart punched Eubanks in the back tunnels of Footprint Center in Phoenix earlier on Wednesday. Said report indicated that the NBA was going to get video of the incident and review it.

We now have more information on what transpired in Phoenix. Per several media reports, Stewart was arrested for assault on Wednesday. Phoenix Police said that he was issued a citation and released.

“According to those sources, both Stewart and Eubanks were going chest-to-chest before a swing to Eubanks’ lip area connected. Police needed to get involved to separate the two and were called to the scene. Stewart left the arena following the altercation with members of the Pistons’ staff, Isaiah Stewart report.

It was back in 2021 that Stewart was involved in an altercatino with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James that led to a two-game suspension.

For their part, the Suns released a statement after Wednesday’s incident.

“The attack on Drew Eubanks was unprovoked, and acts of violence such as this are unacceptable,” the Suns said in a statement. “We unequivocally support Drew, and will continue to work with local law enforcement and the NBA.”

Former Suns head coach Monty Williams, who now coaches the Pistons, indicated that Phoenix should not have weighed in with its statement before all the facts were presented.

As for the 22-year-old Stewart, he was already ruled out of the game after missing Detroit’s past eight outings due to an ankle injury.

The 6-foot-8 big man is averaging 11.0 points and 6.8 rebounds on 47% shooting from the field in 35 game (34 starts) on the season.
