DeAndre Hopkins gushes about early rapport with Tom Savage

DeAndre Hopkins

It’s still early, but this tidbit of news from Houston Texas wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins regarding his first day of training camp is worth taking in.

Quarterback Tom Savage is the presumed starter in Week 1. The fact that he and Hopkins started out on the right foot straight out of the gate is fabulous.

Hopkins struggled immensely when playing opposite quarterback Brock Osweiler last year. He also was not shy in expressing his frustration with Osweiler at times in 2016. Osweiler often times would target anyone but Hopkins for fear of throwing into double coverage. As a result, Hopkins had an off year, tallying only 78 catches for 954 yards and four touchdowns.

That’s all water under the bridge now. Hopkins will continue to build his chemistry with Savage.

Although, he will likely work with rookie Deshaun Watson as well. Head coach Bill O’Brien said that Watson will make the quarterback situation a competitive one.

Either way, it is refreshing to see Hopkins happy again.
