Cubs’ Kris Bryant on Cardinals fans: ‘I hope they boo all of us’

The St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs rivalry is as old as sliced bread. Every single summer brings out the best in both the fans and the teams as they do battle in the National League Central.

That’s been brought to a new level in light of remarks that Cubs star Kris Bryant made this past January claiming that St. Louis is “boring.”

“Who would want to play in St. Louis? It’s so boring. I always get asked, ‘Where do you like to play, where do you not like to play?’ And St. Louis is a place I don’t like to play,” Bryant previously noted, via MLB.com.

Now set to take part in his first series in St. Louis since these comments, Bryant is expecting the boo birds to be out in full force. In fact, he’s hoping that’s the case.

“Of course, it’s going to be not great. I was watching (Manny) Machado get booed by the Yankees [fans]. I don’t know. I hope they boo all of us,” Bryant said. “We want the games to be a nice rivalry, intense. It’s always nice to play there, because there’s a ton of people there, a lot of our fans show up. It makes it fun.”

Be careful what you ask for, Mr. Bryant. Cardinals fans are not the quiet bunch. They will make sure Bryant knows that his previous comments did not fall on deaf ears.

The bad news for Bryant? He’s a career .226 hitter with 43 strikeouts in 123 at-bats at Busch Stadium. A few more Ks, and it would start raining cheers instead of boos in St. Louis.
